At Closet and Storage Concepts, we’re in the business of crafting all kinds of custom solutions for our customers’ storage needs. Be it a more versatile kitchen pantry or a well-defined entertainment system, we make sure to keep your individual concerns in mind when creating the perfect closet set up for your home. With the rise of television shows like The Walking Dead, we’ve noticed a heightened, if somewhat silly, interest in planning for a hypothetical zombie apocalypse. In the spirit of good fun, we’ve put together a few guidelines for setting up a survival closet in the small chance that a zombie apocalypse does find its way to our shores. Read on for a few tips on what you’ll need in case the undead show up at your door.

Food and Water Are an Obvious Must

In the off chance that the walking dead someday make a house call, you’ll want to have plenty of fresh water and non-perishable foods. Lucky for us zombies are more concerned with finding brains than canned beans, but you’ll still want to have as much canned goods on hand as possible. The same thing goes for bottled water, which will surely be in short supply once the undead are among us. Like any survival kit, make sure to focus on items high in nutritional value, including vegetables and canned fruit, so that after you’ve boarded up the windows to keep the hoard out you’ll be able to comfortably wait out the ensuing insanity.

If You Have to Leave The House, You’ll Need a Few Things

In the off chance that you’re unable to keep the crowd of zombies out of your home, you’ll need to have a few other items in your survival closet or storage system. First off, charcoal tablets or water purification tables are a must for any apocalypse-wanderer, so you’ll want to have those on hand. Also, if you’re unable to bring much of your food supply with you, make sure to have seeds for easy to grow crops, like corn and zucchini. Your closet will also want to hold a fishing pole for finding nutrition on the road, as well as a small pan for cooking up the vittles you come across on your travels.

Rebuilding Civilization Takes The Right Tools

Your survival closet is going to need to house not only tools for immediate survival, but also the right items for slowly rebuilding human civilization. This not only includes standard survival tools like an axe, flint and tinder, and a crowbar, you’ll also want to hang on to cultural relics. When you’re trying to get the human species up and running again, having a copy of Shakespeare will remind you of the world as it used to be. Furthermore, make sure to store a journal and pen, so that in the off chance you do end up subsumed by the undead horde, some future person will be able to find proof that you did everything you could to maintain your humanity.
