Tips to Organize Your Car

By csc-admin - May 29th, 2015

With summer on the horizon, we know that your car may be seeing a lot more action, whether it’s for summer activities, parties, or even a road trip. To make the most of your summer, and to minimize any problems that might occur with a long car trip, Closet and Storage Concepts is here with some useful tips on how you can get your car into tip-top shape.

The first step will be to give your car a clean out. Remove all of the unnecessary items, but particularly trash. Sort the remaining items in a way that allows you to see them all at a glance. This will help you assess what you have, and what will need to make it’s way back into your car. Make a list of items you need to keep, what you can relocate to the proper area of your home, and what items can be donated or thrown away. This list will help you evaluate what you have, in addition to keeping you honest about what you end up keeping in your home and car. Having too many things you don’t need is the clearest cause of clutter, so summer is a great time to streamline!

Vacuum your car’s nooks and crannies, and don’t forget to remove car mats so you can reach the base carpets for a good clean as well. You’ll be more organized with less dirt and allergens causing havoc in your car. It’s a win-win scenario!

Once your car is all cleaned up, it’s time evaluate what you have, and determine the best solution to put back what you need. Keep items that will be used more frequently in the front of the car, and less frequently used ones in the rear. A good example of this would be your phone charger, vs. jumper cables. While jumper cables are very useful to keep, you won’t need them as often as the phone charger, so you can keep the jumper cables farther from hand, like in your trunk or back seat.

To keep your car organized you will want to develop a storage solution much like you would for your pantry or closet. Key strategies include having storage catch-alls, a car clean out schedule, and an organized garage.

Reuse and repurpose items that are normally found in your home to help with organizing your car. Use remote TV holders, make-up bags, and empty Kleenex boxes to create a place for everything. Remote TV holders offer areas for drinks if your car is short on cup holders, or even for crayons and markers if your kids like to color while on the go. Make-up bags can help to keep documents or a health kit together without Band Aid strips flying around. Use Kleenex boxes to contain plastic bags for trash. Bins are particularly useful in the trunk to keep groceries and other items from rolling around. Choose ones that are sturdy and easy to remove when you need to take them out for a wash.

Another strategy is to create a schedule to clean your car out. A little effort can yield some great results! As you fill up on gas, clear out any trash and take the opportunity to re-arrange items that might be in the wrong area. Depending on your schedule, you should make time to clean your car out about once a month (although more frequently wouldn’t hurt either).

A clean garage can help you keep your car clean as well, since many items for your car are found here. Use a custom storage solution to make grabbing your kid’s sports gear or any tools needed as easy as possible. This will help to reduce any stress you may have when loading and unloading your car, while helping to keep your car free of any unneeded items.

At Closet and Storage Concepts we know that an organized home (and car) can help you have a less stressful day and help you enjoy life more! Need more organization tips? Give our experts a call. We can help you create a custom solution for your needs from the comfort of your couch!

De-Cluttering Your Home for the New Year

By CSC - January 9th, 2015

Entertainment-6 J

Happy New Year! Here at Closet and Storage Concepts, the New Year is always a busy time for us. Because so many homeowners make organization a major resolution moving into January, we tend to find ourselves working with clients to get their homes’ in tip-top shape for the year to come. In the spirit of this, we’ve put together a few tips for getting your home better organized this month, so that you can start the New Year off right. Read on to find out more, and remember to contact Closet and Storage Concepts to find out how we can upgrade all of your home storage needs!

Consider Downsizing

Everyone may say they love the holiday season for the intimate family gatherings, or the quiet reflection time it tends to afford. But if we’re being honest, the presents sure do help. As nice as it is to receive a gift from a loved one, you have to keep in mind that you’re adding even more clutter to your home or apartment. To start the New Year, consider downsizing some of your collections. If you picked up a new winter jacket, it’s likely the right time to donate the old one you seldom use any longer. The same goes for media collections or sports items. Although it’s always hard to part with your things, remember that an organized home always leads to a better-organized life!

Banishing The Christmas Decorations

It happens every year: now that Christmas is passed and you’re back to work, there’s a scramble to box up and put away all of your seasonal decorations. Whereas last year you threw everything in a box and shoved it wherever you could find space in your closet, this year consider taking some time to organize, label, and properly store your holiday decorations. Not only will it make next year’s decorating that much easier, but buy starting the year off with an organizational purpose you’ll have a better chance of carrying that spirit over to the rest of 2015.

Tackle The Kid’s Room

If you’re a parent, there’s a very good chance your children received a number of new toys, clothes, and other presents. Now that they’ve had some time to play with their new items, make sure you take the time to reorganize their rooms. With an influx of new toys, you can likely find a number of items ready for the donation pile. Even if your child isn’t ready to part with last year’s goodies, make sure to start 2015 right by organizing their closet from top to bottom. By doing this, you’ll be able to get a handle on the mess that can be a child’s room while also teaching important organization and life lessons.

Upgrade Your Storage System

Sometimes, simply reorganizing your home isn’t enough. For a New Year’s resolution, why not commit to finally updating your outdated storage system? Whether it’s a new master closet, a better-designed pantry system, or garage shelving that actually works for you, Closet and Storage Concepts is here to help you find a solution for your home. We’ve worked with countless clients looking to start the new year with a more organized life, so we have the experience necessary to craft the perfect storage system for your individual needs. If you’re in the market for a new home storage solution, make sure to contact Closet and Storage Concepts today!

Three Incredible Garage Man Caves

By csc-admin - May 30th, 2014

Here at Closet and Storage Concepts, we’ve gotten to work on some pretty amazing garage spaces over the years. Whether we’re installing a brand new storage system for a major gearhead or a set of extra closets for the fashionista that’s run out of shoe room, we’ve gotten to create some incredible solutions for homeowners looking to add some extra organization to their lives. It comes as no surprise that we’re always in awe of people that really take their garages to the next level, and we love getting to be a part of projects that challenge conventional notions of what a garage can be. In light of this, we’ve put together a list of a few truly exceptional man caves and garage getaways. Read on to find some inspiration for your dream garage!

Joe Pyle’s Climbing Garage

It’s not uncommon for men to treat the garage as their own personal hideaway. We’ve had a hand in installing the closet system that finally gets a garage space right, but we’ve never been involved in a project quite like Joe Pyle’s garage. Located in Estes Park, Colorado, Joe’s an avid rock climber. As you can imagine, Colorado doesn’t have the best conditions for climbing all year round, especially during the often-brutal winters. Joe wasn’t prepared to spend the offseason just waiting for better weather, though, so he took it upon himself to craft a giant rock climbing wall inside of his garage. Click through the images above to see just how epic Joe’s project was. Though we’re not sure if he included closets to store his climbing gear, his indoor rock wall is still mighty impressive.

The Mechanic’s Dream

Any credible list of exceptional garages has to include one dedicated to that great garage tradition – the auto shop. We’ve installed plenty of storage systems for car enthusiasts to store their tools, but the garage linked to above is one of the finest we’ve ever seen. Built by architect Scott Hommas for a Seattle-area client, this behemoth of a carport comes in at 3,981 square feet. The homeowner, a professional Porsche racer, was looking to build a shrine to his love of everything automotive, and Hommas has certainly kept up his end of the bargain. Housing everything from restored vintage cars to a full-size helicopter, this man cave should have all of the grease monkeys out there salivating.

A Sports Fan’s Dream

We’ve installed plenty of closet solutions in order for mega-fans to store their collections, but this Florida garage is on another level entirely. Designed by Acoustic Innovations out of Boca Raton, this shrine to everything great about University of Florida football is a what fandom is all about. Showcasing memorabilia such as Emmitt Smith’s game-worn cleats and Jevon Kearse’s gloves, this garage also includes a big screen TV for watching everything Gators-related. Most of us may think of our garages as places for storing everything we don’t keep inside the home, but this U of F fan demonstrates that a little creativity can turn a typical space into something special.

Whether you’re a die-hard rock climber or an obsessive sports fan, Closet and Storage Concepts has everything you need to finally get your garage organized. Contact us today to find out just what solutions we have for getting your home where you want it to be.

Spring Into Organization

By csc-admin - April 17th, 2013

Spring is here and there is no time like the present to get organized.  Spring cleaning can be a daunting task so we have compiled a few of our favorite tips to get you started and keep you moving in the right direction.

Don’t Rush.  There is no rule that says you have to finish everything in a day!

Start Small.  More than likely your home isn’t really dirty it’s just a little bit cluttered.  Start off by going room to room and focusing on getting everything off of the floors, coffee table and end tables that doesn’t belong there.

Purge.  Don’t be afraid to get rid of things.  If you can’t remember the last time you used it then you probably don’t need it.  If what you are getting rid of is in good condition consider donating it as opposed to throwing it away.

So Good To Be Green.  In most cases, harsh chemicals aren’t required to get the job done.  Whether you’re washing windows or cleaning floors there are plenty of tough yet earth friendly products available.

Change Your Filters.  Now that the heater is off and the windows are open there is no better time to replace or clean out your air filter.  While you are at it, clean out your dryer vent or hire a professional to come in and do it for you.

Don’t Forget the Garage.  The garage is by far one of the toughest spaces to organize.  It’s not that you can’t it’s just that you don’t have the means to do so.  With adjustable shelving and some customized slat wall we can provide you with the tools to organize your garage once and for all.  Contact us today for your free in home estimate!
