Back-to-School Preparation is Easy, ONLY if you have the Proper Storage Solution Plan in Place!

By csc-admin - July 27th, 2012

Being a “theater person” (or at the very least, being a person prone to drama), I will break the forth wall and admit that I am writing this post on the hottest July day during the hottest summer on record in the Mid-Atlantic section of these United States.

Despite the increasingly alarming trend that allows one to bake cookies on a car dashboard, I bore witness to another alarming trend this morning during the commercial break of my favorite morning talk show that left me equally as prone to perspiration. That is, the advent of the back-to-school advertisement. I won’t name retail names, however, if you guessed, you might hit a bull’s eye.

I understand that the retail calendar differs from the Gregorian calendar, but less than three weeks ago I ooh’ed and aah’ed over 4th of July fireworks, for cryin’ out loud!!

I must admit though, the well-dressed, dancing pre-teens that seemed to be Stepford-like happy to be leaving the care-free days of summer to head back to the disciple of proper-learnin’ got me to thinking. Maybe the retail calendar is not so off after all and now is the perfect time to prepare for the inevitable onslaught of clothes, shoes, books, paper, backpacks and all the other trappings of modern education.

The closet designers at Closet and Storage Concepts have the skills and know-how to design an organizational solution to accommodate the needs of a dancing, well-dressed student, or your child, in advance of the coming school year. Like anything in life, when one feels in control and on top of tasks, everything flows much easier and there is time to enjoy other activities of your choosing.

Below are a few tips that you and your family can take advantage of to help get into the organizational juices flowing:

  • Get rid of junk—first on the list for a reason! Nothing drains the brain more than clutter. If you haven’t used an item in several months, you probably don’t need it. Be honest, no cheating…Closet Organizers
  • Devise a paper plan – back-to-school means permission slips, medical forms, sports releases, etc, etc. Some of these forms come in the mail before the first day. Create a space for this rush of paper. Have a plan to separate these forms outs so that they can be filled-out immediately and safely stored for prompt return. Perhaps “to be signed” and “return to school” bins would fit the bill.
  • Establish the homework space – ideally this place is located away from the television and other distracters or young minds, and has the space to store paper, pens, crayons, an abacus or whatever is needed to assist the youthful scholar achieve greatness.
  • Create a routine checklist—consider what your morning routine typically consists of and brainstorm ways in which tasks can be streamlined to be made faster and more efficient in anticipation of the first day of school.
