The Transitional Closet & Wardrobe

This time of year becomes difficult in many places around the country as it is not warm enough to tuck away the thick knits, and it’s definitely not warm enough to go sans sleeves. As your wardrobe transitions, your closet should too. An organized closet will save you time and sanity, as it will seamlessly fit into your lifestyle. Here are some tips on how your wardrobe, and closet, can play nice with the seasons.

Layer Up

Layering is crucial when between two seasons as you’ll have to be prepared for varied weather reports. Lightweight jackets and coats are good when transitioning from winter to spring, and even from summer to fall. They’ll offer a bit of protection and warmth and can easily be shed if it gets too warm. Scarves are also ideal transition pieces as they come in a variety of materials, styles, and prints that can fit into any season or personal style.

Your closet’s design can follow suit. Lots of layers will be the key to having an organized closet system. Different layers for pants, shirts, dresses, boots, shoes, and everything in between will make sure you have easy access to your whole wardrobe.

Easy Reach

To be prepared for anything you need options. You’ll need access to even more options than when you’re settled into a season, so don’t condemn your chunky knits to the basement or under the bed storage just yet.

With your closet system, you can utilize pull out storage and racks. Try a retractable valet rod, which is a great way to plan ahead for tomorrow. Pull out shoe racks are also quite common as they allow you to make the most of your space, while neatly concealing them away when needed. When using up every inch of your closet, keep the essentials at eye level with the less significant pieces farther up or down from your line of sight. Blouses, t-shirts, pants, or skirts (items you wear most often regardless of the season), should be closer at hand. Items that will be used in the upcoming season should also be closer at hand.

Phase Out

Transitioning your wardrobe will often mean phasing out pieces that won’t be needed and bringing in pieces that will see more wear in the upcoming season. As you are doing this, it will be an optimal time to start cleaning out your closet so you’re ready for the next year. Be prepared to donate pieces that haven’t seen the light of day for longer than you can remember. Say goodbye to pieces that don’t fit. Think of this as a way to make room for new pieces rather than a complete toss out, especially if you’re tight on space.

Make transitioning a breeze as your closet changes with you. Custom closet systems can help you achieve the look and organization you need in your home. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us so we can help you achieve your dream home today!

When Your Home Is Organized, You’re Able To Find What You Need

Let’s say you’re a few days away from Christmas, and Aunt Jeanie is just about to get into town. You know that if she doesn’t see the kids wearing those oversized Christmas sweaters she gave them last year, she’s sure to have her feelings hurt. In most households, in can take hours trying to track down the things you’ve shoved into the back of a closet, out of sight and out of mind. In a well-organized home featuring innovative closet systems by Closet and Storage Concepts, you’ll have those sweaters out and on the kids before she even gets off the plane. The same goes for holiday decorations and home décor; the better designed your storage system is, the easier it will be to pull everything out when the holiday season rolls around.

You’ve Got to Hide Those Toys Somewhere

If your family is anything like ours, as soon as December comes around the kids are already poking around the house trying to find their hidden presents. It’s been a childhood tradition for as long as any of us can remember, and there’s nothing more disappointing than knowing your little one already knows that new bike is coming before the big day. One of the many benefits of a robust closet system is the sheer amount of space you have to tuck things away. We always extoll the virtues of being able to find everything as easily as possible, but there are also those times when having a developed storage system gives you even more options to keep things out of sight. Trying to keep Junior from discovering that new train set? With a custom Closet and Storage Concepts storage system, we bet you’ll be able to find plenty of places to stash away all your family’s gifts.

Holiday Dinners Just Got Easier

At Closet and Storage Concepts, we not only build custom closets and entertainment centers; we’re also skilled in crafting incredible kitchen pantry solutions. What better time to be thankful for a well-organized pantry than Thanksgiving? With the huge influx of pantry items that tends to happen prior to whipping up your Thanksgiving fixings, you don’t want to be cramming even more items into your already over-stuffed pantry. A perfectly designed pantry will not only allow you to handle all of your Thanksgiving foodstuffs, it also makes it easier to buy early and in bulk in order to be better prepared for the holiday season. If that’s not something to be thankful for, we don’t know what is!

The Biggest Benefits of a Well Organized Home

By csc-admin - October 20th, 2014

Here at Closet and Storage Concepts, we’re experts when it comes to home storage solutions. Whether you’re in need of a new kitchen pantry or a better-organized garage, Closet and Storage Concepts is sure to have exactly what you’re looking for. Before you spring for a new home organizing system, you may be asking yourself, “Just what are the benefits of a well organized home?” Aside from the general aesthetics of a clean and organized space, there are a number of reasons why getting your home’s storage system in order will have a big effect on your life. We’ve put together a few of the biggest benefits of a well organized home, so read on to find out what a new storage system from Closet and Storage Concepts can do for you and your family!
Makes You Far More Productive
Most of us are so busy with the day-to-day activities family life requires that the rest of our time is at a premium. If your home is a disorganized mess, it can make that extra time you have that much less productive. If you work from the home, this point is even more salient: imagine the time you’ll save not having to look for that one item you need for twenty minutes. When your home is well organized, you’ll save tons of time completing tasks and projects because you won’t have to waste any time looking for this or that. Productivity tends to skyrocket in a well-organized space, and your home is no different from the office in that regard. If you can create a great storage system in your home, you’ll likely see your general productivity begin to climb.
Cuts Down On Stress
When you’re forced to spend forty five minutes trying to find your spare hair dryer, not only are you cutting into time you could be spending on other projects, you’re also creating a lot of unnecessary stress for yourself. There’s nothing more infuriating than looking for a single item for a long period of time, and it’s in these situations that we can often see stress levels start to shoot up. Not only does stress have a negative impact on your relationships with others, it can also be a detriment to your health. Imagine this scenario: rather than digging through your junk drawer to find your spare key, you know exactly where it is every time you need to use it. That’s a whole lot of stress suddenly caught from your day-to-day.
Great Effects On Your Family Life
This last point is tied to the prior two in some ways, but it’s still worth mentioning: a well organized home can have myriad positive effects on your family life. Not only will you be less stressed out and far more productive, but also those improvements will lead to better quality time with your family. If you don’t have to spend every morning digging through your son’s closet to find his rain gear, you’ll buy some extra time to sit together and have breakfast. Not only does an organized home get you more time to spend with your family, but it is also a great influence on your growing children, helping them to build habits that will benefit them for the rest of their life. If there’s a better reason to get your storage system in order than that, we sure can’t think of it.

Tips for Organizing Your Gear, Play Room, and Craft Closets

By csc-admin - February 14th, 2014

Every home has a different need when it comes to storage, making a one-size-fits-all approach to organization ineffective for most homes. Here at Closet and Storage Concepts, we always work with our customers to find a unique solution to their particular storage problem based on our years of experience. We’ve put together a few tips for organizing a few different closets dedicated to specific types of families and homeowners, from the outdoorsy to the craft-inclined. Whatever your storage situation may be, Closet and Storage Concepts is sure to have a system perfect for keeping your home organized and accessible.

The Gear Closet

Exercise is a must for everyone, and who doesn’t love camping trips and weekend hikes? One of the problems that can arise for these invigorating hobbies is just what to do with all of your camping and sports gear when you’re not able to find the time? We’ve found that having a dedicated gear closet for all of your outdoor equipment can go a long way in keeping your home manageable. An essential item for any gear closet is an over-the-door rack, since balls, bats, and other sports equipment tend to like to move around a lot when placed on a shelf or the floor. Also, look into bins or baskets dedicated to different activities, so that when its time to take the kids to the lake, you’ll know exactly where the tent and camping stove are stored. We’ve also found that a hanging shoe organizer can work great in a gear closet, as it’s perfect for holding mitts, helmets, and hiking boots. Dedicating a closet in your home just for these kinds of activities is sure to make motivating yourself when spring time comes around that much easier.

The Play Room Closet

As any parent is quick to tell you, keeping a play room in order can be a serious headache. A bit of organization can go a long way to keeping things manageable, and a dedicated closet space is the first place to start. The first thing parents should make sure they’re doing is placing those messy items that require supervision (markers that can be used to write on walls, board games with small pieces, etc.) on the top shelf of the closet. If a child can get to a toy they love to play with, they’ll find a way, so it’s important to organize with this in mind. We also recommend getting a label maker for organizing the toy closet, so that when you assign different types of items to different bins or boxes, you’ll be able to find them with ease. We’ve also found that storing books lower, which many people don’t often do, can be encouraging for a child, as they’re more likely to utilize the toys that are within easy reach.

The Craft Closet

Keeping your crafting gear in order can be especially problematic, as a lot of the items can be small and hard to keep track of. One of the best lessons we’ve learned in craft organization is to use ice cube trays to keep your smaller items, such as thimbles, safety pins, and the like, in ice cube trays stored in drawers or boxes. This is sure to keep them easy to find and separated from your other tiny craft needs. Also, like any closet, it’s best to store heavier items, like your sewing machine, at waist level to avoid unnecessarily difficult lifting. Finally, make sure to utilize the back of the door, either with a peg board to hang scissors or current projects on, our a kitchen rack to store paints and glue. It’s always easier to start a project well-organized, so make sure to dedicate a well-kept space to your favorite hobby!

A Look into the Home of the Future

By csc-admin - December 26th, 2013

As we come upon the end of another postmillennial year and prepare for the futuristic-sounding 2014, it’s hard not to be at least a little disappointed in the lack of science-fiction-predicted technology pushing its way into our world. Sure, you can fit a computer in your pocket and store mountains of information in something called “the cloud,” but we’re yet to see a single flying car careening through the streets. The future imagined by pop culture artifacts like The Jetsons or 2001: A Space Odyssey just never seemed to arrive, and with it our dreams of floating cities and sentient machines. When you consider that Back to the Future 2 was set in the quickly-approaching year of 2015, it becomes difficult not to look around and ask yourself, “Where’s my hover board?”

There are, however, a few designers working with new technologies in line with both the aesthetics of “The Year 2000” as well as the underlying philosophy of most classic futurists. Since Closet and Storage Concepts is in the business of providing home solutions for our customers, we’ve found a few innovations that apply directly to the idea of “the Modern house,” or at least a 1960’s pulp novelist’s version of it. From robotic closet systems to fold up ovens, here’s a collection of a few different visions of a better, and far more cutting edge, modern home.

The Freedge – The Inside-Out Fridge

Designed by Matthew McNaughton, the Freedge imagines a revolutionary take on an appliance that has seen very little change over the years. The Freedge takes all of the compartments in a traditional fridge and separates them out, placing each bin behind an exterior wall to maximize space. Rather than having a bulky traditional fridge taking up a large chunk of your kitchen, each compartment of the Freedge is pulled out of the wall when you’d like to access it. A further perk of McNaughton’s system is that it utilizes external cold during winter months in the refrigeration process, meaning that not only will homeowners be saving space, they’ll also be saving on electricity. Best of all, the Freedge is incredibly cool looking, leaving your standard fridge looking like the relic that it is.

The Clean Closet – All in One Laundry Concept

Since we’re in the business of offering affordable, well-designed closet and storage systems for our customers, we’re particularly impressed by Michael Edenius’ Clean Closet design. Essentially taking the laundry process out of the consumer’s life completely, the Clean Closet is exactly what it sounds like: a closet that cleans your clothes while they hang. All of your items are scanned for dirt and impurities by the machine, which then cleans items where imperfections are detected. In one fell swoop, the Clean Closet replaces the laundry basket, washer, and dryer, freeing up much-needed space for the homeowner of the future. Best of all, the Clean Closet does its work without the use of water, making it far more environmentally-friendly than traditional methods. That’s what we call a Closet and Storage Concept!

Qumi – The Portable, Flexible All Purpose Oven

Dreamt up by the Russian engineer Ilia Vostrov, the Qumi is described as a flexible cooking unit, which is an understatement if we’ve ever heard one. Qumi is a fold out universal kitchen appliance that is capable of heating, steaming, or frying liquids and solids, basically making it the only tool the chef of the future will need.   The Qumi is about the size of a plate when folded down for storage, and it is designed to be hung on an induction charging hook, making it completely portable and wireless. Furthermore, the Qumi is run exclusively from your mobile phone or similar device, making display panels and instructions obsolete. With the Qumi, that clunky microwave and oven taking up a majority of your kitchen are a thing of the past, providing much more space than traditional options. For the homeowner of the future, who will surely find space at a premium, the Qumi is the perfect option for any and all home cooking needs.

Although these designs may be a ways off from becoming readily available for the average consumer, it’s exciting to know that great minds are continuing to come up with innovative and, quite frankly, space age solutions for traditional domestic needs. Here’s hoping that sometime in the near future, Closet and Storage Concepts will be installing a Clean Closet in your home!
